The People Behind the Work

Meet the Team

We're a family-owned company that has been building in Halifax since 2004. The same people who quote your project are the people who stand behind it — and the crew on your site is there because they take the finish as seriously as we do.

Owner & Founder

Pat McCarthy

Pat founded Pat McCarthy Renovations in 2004 and still runs it the same way today — as a family-owned company where the owner's name is on the truck, the quote and the finished job.

He stays personally involved in the parts of a project that decide how it turns out: walking the property, scoping the work, preparing the quote, and overseeing the build from first day to final walkthrough. If you call about your project, you're talking to the person responsible for it.

Clients tell us the same two things again and again — that the quote was the most detailed one they received, and that they got straight answers about cost, sequence and timeline instead of a sales pitch. That's the standard Pat set at the start and it hasn't changed in 20 years.

Our Crew

The People on Your Site

Every project is run by a small, consistent crew — the same faces from demolition through to the final coat of paint, so nothing gets lost in a handover.

[Team Member Name]

Lead Carpenter

Runs the framing and structural work on site, sets the standard the rest of the build is measured against, and keeps the crew working to plan.

[Team Member Name]

Site Supervisor

Your day-to-day contact once work starts — sequences the trades, keeps the site safe and tidy, and flags anything that needs a decision before it becomes a delay.

[Team Member Name]

Finish Carpenter

Handles the trim, built-ins, cabinetry and millwork — the tight joints and clean reveals that are the first thing people notice in a finished room.

[Team Member Name]

Project Coordinator

Keeps the schedule, the material orders and the permit paperwork moving so the crew has what it needs on the day it's needed.

[Team Member Name]

Tile Specialist

Lays out and sets the tile work, including our custom showers — waterproofing built as a system, with cuts and grout lines planned before the first tile goes up.

[Team Member Name]

Apprentice Carpenter

Learning the trade the way it should be learned — on real sites, alongside experienced carpenters, with the same standards applied to every task.

How We Work Together

Our In-House Crew & Trusted Trades

Alongside our own carpenters, every project brings in specialist sub-trades — all of them vetted, all of them coordinated and overseen by us. You deal with one contractor, not six.

Electrical

Licensed electrical trades handle service, circuits, lighting and inspections, scheduled around the rest of the build so nothing is opened up twice.

Plumbing

Rough-in and finish plumbing for kitchens, baths and basement suites — drains, supply, venting and fixtures, done to code and inspected.

Heating & HVAC

Heat pumps, ductwork, ventilation and bathroom exhaust sized and installed properly — a detail that quietly decides how a renovation performs.

Drywall & Plaster

Board, tape and finish work taken to a level that holds up under real light — because flat walls are what every paint job depends on.

Painting & Finishing

Prep, prime and finish coats applied by trades who treat cut lines and surface prep as part of the craftsmanship, not the cleanup.

Covered on Every Site

Everyone who works on your property is covered — we're in good standing with the Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia and carry $2,000,000 in commercial general liability insurance.

One Point of Contact

Vetted Trades, Overseen by Us

Bringing in sub-trades only works if somebody is accountable for what they do. On our projects that somebody is Pat McCarthy Renovations — we choose the trades, schedule them, check the work as it goes in, and answer for the result.

It's one of the things clients mention most often: not just the quality of our own carpentry, but the quality of the trades we bring with us and the oversight that keeps the whole job moving in one direction. You're not chasing five contractors for five answers.

  • Trades we've worked with over years, not whoever is available that week
  • Scheduling and sequencing handled for you
  • Work inspected as it's installed, not after it's covered up
  • WCB coverage and $2,000,000 commercial general liability insurance on every site
  • One walkthrough at the end, one list, one company responsible for it
